Fox Creek is a small town in northwestern Alberta, Canada located on Highway 43. It is roughly 260 kilometers northwest of Edmonton via Highway 43 s also 200 kilometers away from Grande Prairie, also via Highway 43. According to the 2006 Canada Census Fox Creek had a population of 2278 residents.The local economy is driven heavily by the resource industry, oil and gas being the primary and forestry following. Currently major employers are the Sem-Cams group, and Mostowich Lumber (Now Owned by Millar Western). Sem-Cams is the current owner and operator of 3 major gas processing facilities as well as pipelines.
Fox Creek is located in a wilderness area that supports significant fish and wildlife resources. The area has an established reputation for its big game hunting and recreational fishing.
The proximity of the Town to the many lakes and streams, provides the residents of Fox Creek with a variety of recreational activities such as boating, water skiing/tubing, fishing, camping and hiking to name a few.
The town's entertainment and recreational facilities and services include an outdoor swimming pool [adjacent to the school], a 4-sheet curling rink, indoor arena, 9-hole golf course with grass greens, driving range, community hall, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, picnic areas, a scout hall, and a number of playgrounds. Annual events such as a Slo-pitch Tournament, golf tournaments, curling bonspiels and the Athabasca Raft Races are a big hit with the residents of Fox Creek. The Fox Creek Chamber of Commerce also hosts a Canada Day celebration and an annual Old Fashioned Christmas. Besides these events the RCMP host an annual ball [dinner and dance] and golf tournament. Fox Creek is known to Albertans as a good place to raise a family. In addition to available urban amenities, town residents are quite outdoor-oriented and enjoy many recreational benefits associated with area lakes, streams and forests.
