Business Detail
Oyen is a small town in eastern Alberta, close to the Saskatchewan boundary, north of Medicine Hat. The town is located on Highway 41, 4 kilometers (2 mi) south of its junction with Highway 9, and is the first major centre within Alberta for travellers entering from nearby Saskatchewan. In 2006, Oyen had a population of 1015 residents.The main economic base ncludes farming, ranching and oil and gas exploration, production and services. Farms in our regions are generally mixed, ranching and grain production. A large percentage of these farms have one operator and are considered a family farm. The average farm has approx 1500 acres and 75 head of cows. Grain production accounts for a large percentage of acreage usage; this production is generally done using a summer fallow/crop rotation due to the arid climate.
Our communities are blessed with an abundance of lands and resources. The energy sector is very strong and provides employment and much economic spin off to our communities. We have a number of energy related businesses, services and contractors. New opportunities are tourism and e-commerce/remote work.
Oyen is a modern urban community that provides excellent municipal services, medical services, modern schools, recreation/leisure/sport facilities, senior accommodations, and the benefits of âbig cityâ life without âbig cityâ problems. Through partnerships and alliances with surrounding municipalities and government agencies, residents of Oyen and surrounding communities have been able to survive and maintain an excellent quality of life. Local community and recreation organizations reflect the interests and passion of our town.
