Welcome to the Town of Whitecourt! The ideal place to call home, with an abundance of

natural resources and a thriving economy. Whitecourt, where even the rivers meet!

Whitecourt is located in the midst of beautiful forests and alongside the scenic Athabasca

and McLeod Rivers. It is just 177 kilometers northwest of Edmonton and 267 kilometers

northeast of Jasper.

Whitecourt is a dynamic, young and growing community that strives to meet the needs of all

residents. The majority of the Town’s population is between the ages of 25 and 44 years

old, many with young families. A census completed in 2006 shows Whitecourt’s population

to be 8,971.

Whitecourt is home to a diverse group of industries – with forestry, oil and gas, and tourism

playing key roles in economic development. Forestry plays a major role with such

companies as Millar Western, Alberta Newsprint Company and Blue Ridge Lumber located

in the area.

Whitecourt has a hospital and a full menu of medical services. There is an enhanced lodge

for seniors, Spruce View Lodge, which is currently undergoing an expansion and renovation

to include a long-term care facility. The Whitecourt Fire Department, the Royal Canadian

Mounted Police and Associated Ambulance Service provide emergency and protective

services for Whitecourt and the surrounding area.

Whitecourt’s location in the middle of miles of forested lands and rugged terrain creates

many recreational opportunities. Summer months bring out avid fishermen, mountain bikers,

hikers and all-terrain vehicle operators. For golfers there is the Whitecourt Golf and Country

Club, a beautiful 18-hole course. Whitecourt is a winter playground for those who hunt, ice

fish, cross-country ski and snowmobile. Whitecourt also offers a snowboard hill and

toboggan hill within Town limits.

Whitecourt has several parks and facilities for recreational use and enjoyment. It is

interesting to note that many of the Town’s facilities were constructed or funded by volunteer

groups. The Whitecourt Twin Arenas, RCMP Century Swimming Pool and Graham Acres

Multi-Purpose Recreation Area are just a few of the recreational facilities in town. Rotary

Park, located right in the heart of the downtown area, is the host site of the annual Rodeo

and features a four-acre pond ideal for skating in the winter and family fishing in the warmer

months. The Whitecourt River Slide is an attraction for all ages. Children can slide and tube

down waterways while parents relax and enjoy the scenic setting at the picnic area

alongside Rotary Pond.
