Lake Cowichan is located on Vancouver Island at the eastern end of Cowichan Lake, which is 30 km. long and lies at an elevation of 168 m. We are proud to be one of the Gateway Communities in British Columbia with a new public highway leading to the west coast of Vancouver Island via Mesachie Lake to Port Refrew and Sooke and ultimately Victoria, BC. Lake Cowichan has a population of about 2,948 residents.
Lake Cowichan is just 20 minutes west of Duncan on Highway No. 18 and an hour away from Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia, via Highway #1. The world-famous heritage Cowichan River flows from the Lake through the town, emptying into Cowichan Bay on the east coast of Vancouver Island The river is known as Canada's Fly-Fishing capital and the lake is used extensively for swimming, boating, water-skiing, windsurfing, and fishing. Numerous hiking trails and nature walks in the area include the Cowichan River Footpath and the Trans Canada Trail. Cowichan is made up of a number of small communities, each with its distinct character and unique activities.
