Town of Gretna

The Safe and Trusted Canada website is presented in English. You may use your browser's translation feature to view the website in your preferred language. Safe and Trusted Canada creates and maintains Information Only Profiles using publicly available business information. Safe and Trusted Canada goes beyond business names, reviews, and star ratings. Consumers can find Canadian businesses by location, category, services, and credentials, including licensing, liability insurance and WCB coverage where applicable. Business profiles may also include images, videos, documents, promotions and employment opportunities with direct links to the business website. See More About Safe and Trusted Canada

A business owner or authorized representative may request removal of an Information Only Profile at any time. Business owners may also manage their listing at no charge through a free Basic Account. The Basic Account provides a username and password, giving the business owner control of the information displayed in the listing and the ability to keep it up to date. See Your Profile Options as a Business.

Consumers can search for a business by business location, phone number, city, or trade area, credentials, and more.   See the YouTube Video

Please note that only businesses with business subscriptions will be seen in cities or towns.  All other information-only profiles will be seen in the closest trade area to their city or town.

Plus, Standard, and Advanced Subscriptions are seen in their closest trade area, plus all the cities and towns applicable to their subscription.

The Professional Subscription is seen in up to five trade areas, plus all the cities and towns applicable to their subscription.  They are marked as a Featured Listing for their province, trade areas and cities.

Business Detail

Gretna is located on Manitoba Provincial Highway #30 on the Canada-United States border and is the southernmost community of the Pembina Valley Triangle. It was established because it was situated at "Smuggler's Point", a place where the natural tree cover of the Pembina River crossed the border north into Canada, affording cover to persons wishing to cross the border with undeclared goods. According to 2001 Census Gretna had a population of 563 residents. Gretna is a progressive and thriving community. It is home to the Mennonite Collegiate Institute (western Canada's oldest private co-ed school) and Buhler Hall, a state-of-the-arts performing art centre. In Gretna you will find an excellent school system, a pipe line pumping station and tank farm, a golf course and park area, and a number of industries and businesses serving the needs of the residents. As well, the Canadian and United States governments maintain customs and immigration offices at the border crossing, providing the potential for developing strategic trade and travel opportunities.

Several yearly events take place in Gretna such as the annual Gretna Tractor Pull in July and the Hot Spot Festival in September. The century-old "Peace Bell" tolls every November 11th to mark Remembrance Day in ceremonies that draw attendance from all over the area. The N.W.M.P. Cairn commemorates the 125th Anniversary of the N.W.M.P. and the re-enactment of their March West in 1999, located on the Trans Canada Trail.

This town is recognized for its warmth, "Hot Spot" not only for the climate but also for the community involvement. Gretna is a small town with great expectations and take pride in their community. The residents are very welcoming to newcomers and are a great support to new development.
