Leaf Rapids is a town in northern Manitoba, Canada. The town was developed as an experimental model; a model that other northern communities could replicate as they strove for modern convenience and luxury in a northern environment. The community is located approximately 1,000 km north of Winnipeg along the Churchill River. In a 2006 Canada Census the population of Leaf Rapids was 539 residents.People who enjoy the great outdoors â but donât want to give up modern conveniences â will fall in love with Leaf Rapids. Leaf Rapids is an idyllic playground for outdoor activities. In summer, the nearby rivers and lakes are a fishermanâs dream come true with abundant Great Northern Pike, Walleye and Trout. In winter, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling trails provide recreation for young and old alike. Year round, the natural beauty of the forest is preserved within the townsite, with walking trails linking residential bays, the Town Centre Complex and the majestic Churchill River.
The hub of Leaf Rapids is the 210,000 sq. ft. Town Centre Complex housing stores, restaurants, school, library, gymnasium, theatre, Exhibition Centre, healthcare as well as municipal offices. Outside there is a nine hole golf course, a ball diamond and tennis court. No home is more than 10 minutes walking distance from the town centre.
In the crystal, clear and cold days of winter the days are short but the recreation pursuits are plenty. Snowmobile and cross country trails crisscross the forest through some of the most isolated and beautiful areas imaginable. Ice fish from your ice house on Turnbull Lake. A curling rink (closed 2005) and indoor arena (no guarantee of opening each year) are available in addition to the many outdoor pursuits.
