The Safe and Trusted Canada website is presented in English. You may use your browser's translation feature to view the website in your preferred language. Safe and Trusted Canada creates and maintains Information Only Profiles using publicly available business information. Safe and Trusted Canada goes beyond business names, reviews, and star ratings. Consumers can find Canadian businesses by location, category, services, and credentials, including licensing, liability insurance and WCB coverage where applicable. Business profiles may also include images, videos, documents, promotions and employment opportunities with direct links to the business website. See More About Safe and Trusted Canada
A business owner or authorized representative may request removal of an Information Only Profile at any time. Business owners may also manage their listing at no charge through a free Basic Account. The Basic Account provides a username and password, giving the business owner control of the information displayed in the listing and the ability to keep it up to date. See Your Profile Options as a Business.
Consumers can search for a business by business location, phone number, city, or trade area, credentials, and more. See the YouTube Video
Please note that only businesses with business subscriptions will be seen in cities or towns. All other information-only profiles will be seen in the closest trade area to their city or town.
Plus, Standard, and Advanced Subscriptions are seen in their closest trade area, plus all the cities and towns applicable to their subscription.
The Professional Subscription is seen in up to five trade areas, plus all the cities and towns applicable to their subscription. They are marked as a Featured Listing for their province, trade areas and cities.
Business Detail
Melita is a small community located in the southwestern corner of the province of Manitoba with a population, as of the 2006 census, of 1,051.
Melita is the busy âHub of the Southwestâ servicing a large farm community that hopefully will be able to capitalize on the increasing commodity prices over the next few years, weather permitting. It also sits within a booming oil patch that has created jobs for young and old alike, and has finally put some pressure on housing and rental real estate. At the same time Melita boasts many affordable serviced and serviceable lots for both commercial and residential development.
As we look to the future, exciting things are starting to happen. The new water system is finally entering the final phase, and will be functional by late 2008. Our new pool is starting to take shape, and it's hard to believe that only about 7 weeks remain before it's to be open to the public. Lots of work between here and there.
Good news on the rest of the recreational picture as well. Tundra Oil & Gas has made a commitment to fund some capital improvements to both the Arena and the Curling Rink. The Melita Golf Club has also taken the plunge and will redo the watering system this spring, as aging lines and needed repairs made it appear feasible to the membership to rebuild rather than patch some more. All these things, although expensive, will ensure that Melita will in the future be an attractive place to live and raise a family.
Residential construction is also at the forefront this year, and the local housing market has forged ahead. Plans are in the works to construct some type of apartment complex, as well as a plan to provide new residential housing by ordering RTM units and placing them on site at any of the available serviced lots, all within a very short time frame.
Health Care has also been an area of concern, and a committee has been formed with people from the Town and surrounding areas, including the RMâs of Albert, Arthur, Brenda, Edward, Pipestone, and the Village of Waskada, to plan for ways to attract and retain medical staff into the future to ensure the viability of our local area health services. Provisions have already been made to secure permanent housing for a doctor, and further plans will be developed to encourage and assist training of skilled health care providers whether they be nurses, doctors, lab techs or other required personnel as we move into the future.
Even the communityâs thoughts on Tourism have caused quite a stir nationally as we try to expand our scope to be more than the Bird Capital of Manitoba; but if nothing else comes of it, we will be certainly be checked out once in a while by those who really want to see how warm and friendly the community is, bananas or not!
We invite you home to help us celebrate our 125th on the August long-weekend in 2009. Keep an eye on the website for progress on the plans and registration information. For those of you who'd like to get back to your roots and enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle, and maybe even make some contributions to small town community living, we're always here with an open door and a welcoming greeting.
Please come for a visit, or even stay awhile. Melita will be more than happy to serve you!
